One morning as we were eating breakfast my husband asked me if I’d like to be a photographer. At first I thought this was a strange question – especially since I was still rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. Not being much of a morning person, I said, “huh?” He told me that he’d been thinking about it and he felt that I had the talent, the passion and the ability to be great at photography. It was at this point in the conversation that I really started paying attention. He said that he’d support me 100% if I wanted to make a go of it. I had always thought that maybe someday I’d try photography on a professional level – when our kids are grown and out of the house, but I never seriously thought to do it now. We have young kids and bills to pay! He told me that he thought if the two of us partner and work together toward the goal of me becoming a real photographer (I felt a little like Pinocchio at this point), that we could do. I was still pondering this conversation when I jumped in the shower that morning and by the time I was dressed I was over the moon excited!
From that morning on it’s been like someone lit a fire under me! I’m so excited to be doing something that I love and it has meant the world to me to have his backing. Being a Creative himself, I’ve looked to him for constructive criticism and feedback on my photos, and of course a few pep-talks along the way when I’ve questioned my ability. It’s not just moral support he’s given me – he built this website for me, supported me when I bought a very expensive lens (and then geeked-out over it for 2 weeks) and never complains about having Saturday mornings at home with the kids by himself while I get to go on a photo shoot.
What a wonderful gift to give someone – the opportunity to follow their dreams. I can honestly say that without him I wouldn’t be following mine today. Thank you, Bryan – for all you’ve done and continue to do for me. I love you, baby!
